The Fireside Elementary PTO is proud to partner with PVUSD and our school administration, teachers and staff to pilot a Digital Citizenship program here at Fireside for our 3rd-6th graders. This program uses Common Sense Media’s Digital Citizenship Curriculum which can be reviewed at www.commonsense.org/education/digital-citizenship.

The digital world is expanding at lightning speed and bringing with it amazing opportunities and complex challenges for everyone. When we teach digital citizenship to students, we help create a school culture that supports safe, positive, appropriate, responsible and kind digital citizens and technology users. With great opportunity brings a greater responsibility to teach our students about digital citizenship.

The following are the main goals for our Fireside Elementary Digital Citizenship Program:

  • Responsibility to oneself – staying safe, healthy, protecting our reputations

  • Responsibility to friends and family – protecting online privacy of others

  • Responsibility to larger community – communicating in a kind, respectful manner while positively contributing to appropriate online conversations

We have Digital Citizenship Certified Parent Volunteers that will be teaching six lessons a year to our 3rd-6th grade students. This program uses the award winning Common Sense Media’s Digital Citizenship Curriculum that prepares students with critical 21st-century skills.

We believe this program brings students, families, and educators together to create world-class digital citizens for the 21st century. Raising and educating young people in today’s 24/7 digital media environment is one of the most exciting and overwhelming challenges that parents and schools face today. Working together with Common Sense Education, we can raise a generation of students who become smart, responsible, and respectful digital citizens. Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
